The team from the Department of Law at Shih Chien University led by Chair Professor Li-Ching Chang and including the chair of the Department of Law, Chung-Yuan Jiang, Professor H Yu-Wen Huang, and Secretary Xin-Yi Pan, accompanied Professor Viola Schmid on a visit to the Ministry of Justice on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023. They were received by Minister of Justice Ching-Hsiang Tsai.
Professor Viola Schmid is a renowned legal expert from Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany, with outstanding expertise in traditional constitutional law, internet law, and artificial intelligence law. Her research achievements and academic contributions have earned international acclaim and have had a profound impact on the field of law.
Minister Tsai extended a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for the Department of Law at Shih Chien University's commitment to inviting foreign scholars to visit Taiwan, which enhances the country's international academic standing. Minister Tsai also mentioned Taiwan's recent efforts to legislate laws related to artificial intelligence. He believed that Professor Schmid's visit would be beneficial in shaping these laws and drawing from Germany's relevant experiences to refine Taiwan's legislation.
During the meeting, various topics were discussed, including the development of AI law in Taiwan and Germany, as well as the utilization of artificial intelligence in crime prevention and control. The meeting concluded with lively discussions and a group photo was taken to commemorate the occasion.
